De Meye Wine Estate is a family-owned boutique winery in Muldersvlei, on the Stellenbosch Wine Route. The Myburgh family has farmed the land for five generations, and the estate is currently run by Philip Myburgh, who grew up on the farm. De Meye started out as a grape grower and released its first wines in 1999. The farm covers 100 hectares and includes the winery, cellar and storage. The vineyards face southeast and are cooled by westerly winds during ripening. Red varieties planted are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz, and the whites are Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. All wines are made only from estate-grown grapes, which are hand-picked and hand-sorted. Winemaker Liam du Plessis follows a minimal-intervention approach. The current range includes a Rosé, an Unwooded Chardonnay, a Chenin Blanc, a Syrah and a Cabernet Franc, priced from about R120 to R270 at the cellar door. Everything from vineyard to cellar, sales and exports is handled in-house. The estate already exports to a few select markets. De Meye is also a visitor destination. It has a tasting room, The Table at De Meye restaurant, a quarterly wine club, lavender fields with estate-produced lavender oil, and a venue for weddings and corporate events.
